The federal government announced plans for ALTO, the high-speed “bullet” rail service between Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto, late last year. Jack Heath submitted a short paper earlier this year recommending a station in Markham.

This C.V. for Jack was done in the spring in conjunction with the possibility of his being appointed Regional Chair of York Region.
The former Pickering Airport Lands could be transferred to RNUP. Last spring, Jack wrote to Transport Canada recommending transfer of the vast majority of the lands to the park ASAP.
In 2024 Jack wrote to provincial and Markham representatives about the proposed widening of Highway #7 in east Markham and recommended a bypass of Locust Hill. He supports the widening but wanted authorities to know how important it was to save Locust Hill and how this related to the City’s RNUP plans.
Jack was the negotiator with Parks Canada for York Region and the City of Markham for the Memorandum of Understanding on Rouge National Urban Park (RNUP). The final MOU was 60 pages. Here is the introduction that he presented to York Region Council and Markham in November 2022.
